The Andhra Pradesh Government will soon notify an Energy Conservation Building (ECB) code.

The code is one of the six-point programme proposed to be launched soon to provide some relief to electricity consumers and utilities to achieve huge energy savings in identified key sectors.

This was announced by P. K. Mohanty, Chief Secretary, and Chairperson, State Electricity Conservation Mission (SECM) at a review meeting held here on Saturday.

The code would be applicable to all non-residential buildings with more than 1,000 sq. mt of plotted area or 2,000 sq mt of built up area, whichever is higher.

Initially, single star energy conservation shall be made mandatory in respect of all these structures. Certification of Energy Conservation for these Buildings would be issued by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) empanelled architects.

The other key points in the proposed agenda would include finalising green factory building code existing and upcoming industries, evolving measures for replacement of old and inefficient motors and pump sets in urban & rural water supply schemes and promoting and scaling up generation through non-renewable sources like solar and wind, according to a release.
