Home Builders Association of Lexington commits to energy efficient building program
The Home Builders Association of Lexington has committed to a new way to accurately demonstrate energy and money saving building standards, known as the Home Energy Rating System Index (HERS), the industry standard by which a home’s energy efficiency is measured and the nationally recognized system for inspecting and calculating a home’s energy performance.
Developed by Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET), a national organization dedicated to energy efficiency, the Home Energy Rating System Index (HERS) is the industry standard by which a home’s energy efficiency is measured and the nationally recognized system for inspecting and calculating a home’s energy performance.
“We’re proud that HBAL is the first Home Builders Association in the nation to support the HERS rating system by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) committing to encourage 100 percent of its builder members to participate in the Energy Smart Builder Program by signing their own MOU with RESNET as a commitment to rate 100 percent of their new homes,” said Todd Johnson. “This is an excellent marketing tool to help builders sell their homes.”
“A home rated on the HERS Index will be given a score based upon its energy performance as determined by a certified RESNET Home Energy Rater,” Johnson explained. “The lower the score, the more energy efficient the home. Consumers will value this label as the standard for energy efficiency and performance.”
These building standards will be on display at one of the two “Homes of Excellence” featured on this year’s Grand Tour of Homes. The Chestnut Springs will be the site of the press conference on July 12, and it is located at 3012 Blackford Parkway, which is just off Man O’ War Boulevard.
