Roundtable: US Benchmarking Policy
IMT Commercial Benchmarking Policy Roundtable
Washington, D.C. | November 8, 2010
In November 2010, the Institute for Market Transformation convened senior policymakers from U.S. states and cities and leading building energy efficiency experts to discuss the implementation of commercial benchmarking and disclosure policies. The event, known as the Policy Roundtable on Implementing Benchmarking and Disclosure Policy, was the first of its kind in the United States and a bellwether for the swift and continuing evolution of rating and disclosure policies throughout the nation.
The Roundtable featured briefings by each jurisdiction on the mechanics of local rating and disclosure policies, followed by a discussion of implementation challenges and best practices. The group explored issues including compliance and quality assurance; the mandatory application of ENERGY STAR benchmarking tools; access to utility data; and disclosure strategies.
IMT will publish an implementation roadmap drawing from the Roundtable in the spring of 2011. The research will also summarize all current rating and disclosure policies and initiatives in the United States.
